ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS, It has been discovered that the swing set at the large park has damage to one of the support poles.  Please do not use the swing sets until the repairs have been made.  The Newlin Meadows HOA board is proactively perusing repairs on the swing set and hope to have this issue resolved soon.

Kindergarten registration for the 2010/2011 school year will be held at Gold Rush Elementary on

January 14, 2010 from 6:00- 7:30PM. If you know of any new kindergarteners in the community,

please share this information with their family.

At our November 2009 HOA meeting, a question about  finding ways to reduce or eliminate solicitors in our neighborhood was posed.  Some neighboring communities have “No Soliciting/No Handbill” signs posted in their entrances and we wondered if these signs actually work or hold any weight legally.   After contacting the city, it was determined that these signs would only act as a deterrent but are not legally binding.  The ordinance by the Town of Parker would override any sign posted in the entrances of our community.

There are ways you as a homeowner can try and reduce solicitation by simply hanging a “No Soliciting” sign on your door or window.  You might also benefit by being more informed about the “Peddler and Solicitor requirements” here in Parker.  (see below)

Peddler and Solicitor License Requirements

By ordinance, the Town of Parker requires all peddlers and solicitors engaged in door-to-door sales to obtain a license or permit to conduct business in Parker.

Anyone soliciting residential areas for the purpose of door-to-door sales must:

*Register with the Town Clerk’s office

*Obtain a $50 license for their business to conduct business in the Town of Parker

*Obtain a $50 permit for each individual engaging in door-to-door sales

*Pay sales tax on those transactions

Purpose of Ordinance

Ensures that any individual or business engaged in door-to-door sales has a business license.   Allows Parker to deny a license or permit to any individual who has been charged with:

*Misrepresentation

*Fraud

*Deception

*Breach of warranty or contract in Parker or elsewhere

Failure to comply with this ordinance, or any ordinance applicable to the applicant’s permitted activities, obtain a sales tax license or remit sales tax due to the Town, allows Parker to deny a license or permit any individual who, in the past five years, has been convicted of crimes or acts against people or property or institutionalized for mental illness that caused acts of violence against people or property. Violation of the ordinance is a misdemeanor, and conviction carries a fine of up to $499.

Exemptions

Those exempt from the ordinance are individuals:

*Delivering newspapers, milk, bread, firewood and farm produce

*Soliciting lawn, garden or snow shoveling work

*Whose activities advocate civic, religious, charitable or political causes

*Companies that have a franchise agreement with the Town

Notwithstanding the exemptions listed, such exempt persons who engage in door-to-door sales or solicitation of contributions shall be required to obtain an identification card prior to engaging in door-to-door sales or solicitation of contributions, and shall pay $10 for the cost of preparing such identification card.

Halloween contest winner 2009

Congratulations to our winner, The Gregory Family located on Rock Willow Way!    The Gregory House was cleverly crafted with a haunted graveyard loaded with ghoulish creatures, headless henchmen and ghastly ghostly figures.  In addition to the Gregory House, many neighbors on Rock Willow Way had participated in making their street, the BEST DECORATED STREET in Newlin Meadows!  There was no shortage of foot traffic on Halloween Night as trick or treaters lined up to get an up close glimpse of this spooktacular street and hope to walk away with a treat or two.  We hope you enjoy some photo highlights of the evening and thank you to all the homes who made Halloween an exciting night to remember!

STADIUM: You can’t help but notice all the changes in our neighborhood lately.  First, The Douglas County School District announced the opening of Burt.com Stadium located at 11901 Newlin Gulch Blvd.  You can go to www.dcsdk12.org and download your copy of the 2009 FALL  schedule and enjoy a night out close to home while watching our local teams compete!

chambers road

STREETS: October 15th was a milestone within itself as the Town of Parker opened the new stretch of road on Chambers.  This expansion of road has successfully reduced and redirected much of the traffic formerly running down Newlin Gulch Blvd.  Neighbors have reported seeing and hearing less commuter and construction traffic on our neighborhood streets.

Private Park

small park sign

SIGNS: Have you noticed the new signs posted in both our neighborhood parks?  We owe a big thank you to the many concerned homeowners who have noticed a high amount of traffic from non-residents and organized community groups using our parks.  These homeowners helped facilitate the need for posted signs to keep our parks open and available to our residents without the interference of unauthorized groups and organizations.  The signs read:

PRIVATE PARK

Park use is restricted to homeowners

of Newlin Meadows Association

only.  Organized or group activities

must receive prior written approval

from the Management Company.

rain sensor

SERVICE & SENSORS: This past summer the board of directors made a change in landscape companies to Parker based, Valley Crest.  The change in companies was necessary to provide proper maintenance and high quality service our homeowners have requested.  At our May 2009 HOA meeting, we had an overwhelming request from our homeowners to have Valley Crest get our sprinklers on a “non-peak” watering schedule in our parks and common areas.  Valley Crest complied and this new schedule allows our homeowners daytime hours to enjoy the parks without the interruption of sprinklers.  In addition to getting the sprinkler schedule re-worked, homeowners also requested that we have Rain Sensors installed so we are not watering during rainy weather.  Please note our recently chartered Landscape Committee is the voice of our neighborhood concerning landscaping issues.  They currently have some very important tasks to handle in our neighborhood.  If you have something to share, be sure to direct your suggestions, requests or concerns to the Landscape Committee by emailing them at newlinnews@yahoo.com .

Materials:
• Scissors
• Colored construction paper
• Brown paper bags
• 2 small white pom-poms
• Cardboard (cereal box)
• Black permanent marker
• Glue stick
Instructions:
From the brown paper bags, cut a circle 3 1/2 inches in diameter for the turkey’s head. Next, cut a 3-inch-wide band to fit around your child’s head.
From the cardboard, cut a strip 5 by 1 1/2 inches to use for a neck. Fold it three times accordion style, then glue one end to the back of the paper circle.
For a beak, fold yellow construction paper and cut out a small double triangle (1 1/2 inches along the fold). Cut a rounded L from red paper for the turkey’s wattle.
To create eyes, draw a black circle on each pom-pom with the marker. Glue the eyes, wattle and one side of the beak to the head. Let them dry. Then, glue the loose end of the neck to the center of the headband.

Now, wrap the headband around your child’s head; mark where the ends overlap, then remove the band and glue the ends. Finally, glue on construction paper feathers and wings.
